« on: September 11, 2005, 09:03:54 AM »
KARACHI: Masood’s precious goal gave Balochistan the title of the 4th National Under-17 Football Championship when they thrashed NWFP on Saturday at the Ayub Stadium in Quetta. It is Balochistan’s second major junior title as they had won the 18th National Under-18 Championship at Abbottabad two months back.

According to information, after a fruitless first half, forward Masood found the net in the 48th minute to help Balochistan to the coveted title. The defending champions Sindh setting aside Punjab by two goals to nil secured third position in the seven-team competition.

Abdul Rehman and Ali Muhammad netted their goals in the 64th and 67th minutes. Other teams in the tournament were Punjab, Wohaib Club Lahore, Islamabad and Northern Areas (NA).

The championship was organised by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to explore the talented players for the Pakistan junior team, scheduled to participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-17 Championship Group G of Central and South Asian Zone II qualifying rounds to be held between November 13 to 17 in India. Tajikistan and India are also in the fray along with Pakistan. Pakistan will clash with India in the opening match on November 13 and Tajikistan on November 15.

Match officials for the matches were Ali Muhammad (match commissioner), Jahangir Khan (referee inspector), Jamal Abdul Nasir, Muhammad Ali, Shamas Pervez, Shafiq Ahmed, Abdul Khalid, Muhammad Saeed, Taj Muhammad and Shafaat Habib (referees and assistant referees).
